Our conclusion to dollar value is based on three or more of the following:
1. The overall cosmetic and mechanical condition of the inspected vehicle.
2. The demand and supply of comparable vehicles.
3. Dollar amounts indicated by the value guides.
4. Opinions of dealers who have handled the model in the past and would market the vehicle currently.
5. The expertise of the appraiser.
6. Auction result listing actual sold cars or highest dollar bid against owners reserve.

Description of car and appraisal

Vehicle Description: Everything is original from the straight 8-cylinder engine, hydra-matic transmission and 6-volt electrical system. The car is very solid and is in running condition. The body is straight with minimal scratches and minor blemishes, but no dents or evident rust. There is one spot on the driver’s side rear fender with body filler from minor body damage. The filler was measured with a maximum depth of 1/8th of an inch. This car would be a very good and easy candidate for a repaint as the body is in very good condition. The chassis has minor dirt and grease build up and only has minimal surface rust. There are no excessive fluid leaks. The interior is red and white with very comfortable bench seats. The interior vinyl shows a little sun fading but is otherwise in great condition.

This 1949 Pontiac Chieftain Silver Streak Deluxe is a prime example of a beautiful family cruiser. The car looks good and runs well with only 30,000 original miles. The paint is not in the best shape and could possibly use refurbishing. The body is otherwise in great shape with no major dents or dings. The chrome is in good shape and it looks as though the Maroon red paint has been recently added giving it a very nice contrast. The convertible top is showing its age but otherwise in good condition. The straight 8cylinder engine is factory original as well as the hydra-matic automatic transmission. All the glass and weather stripping is there and in good shape. The carpet and interior is in good “driver quality” shape. The market on these Large “Land Sharks” has steadily increased in value and the convertible power top cars are getting harder and harder to find, that being said I find through extensive research and numerous websites and Dealers, this 1949 Pontiac Chieftain has a fair market value of $20,000.
